I was making coffee before work with my Saeco machine and suddenly the grinder just stopped halfway through. Beans were still inside, lights flashing, but no sound at all. I pulled the plug, plugged it back in, same thing. I thought maybe it was clogged, so I started poking around inside with a spoon handle like an idiot. Big mistake, because I ended up scratching part of the plastic chute and still didn’t fix anything. The worst part was realizing I had no manual anymore, since I tossed the box years ago thinking I’d never need it. I spent a good hour bouncing around random websites with broken links and blurry PDFs, and by the end I was late for work and had to buy gas station coffee. Not exactly the morning I wanted.

It always seems like the most important gadgets fail right when you’ve built your whole routine around them. It makes me wonder if it’s just coincidence, or if we only notice how fragile things are once we really depend on them. Either way, nothing throws off a day like starting it differently than you expected.
